Description

Dark and glossy leaves throughout the year. Evergreen foliage densely stretches across this Cherry Laurel, accented with spring flowers and shiny autumn berries – the bees will love it!

‘Caucasica’ is similar in many ways to the widely grown ‘Rotundifolia’ variety of Cherry Laurel, except it is much hardier and equipped for more-or-less any weather the British winter has in store for it.

Each leaf that makes up the foliage of this strong-growing shrub is big and dark green, emerging along upright branches. Spring brings fragrant white blooms, followed by dark autumnal berries to feed the birds. In fact, this variety is even recommended by the RHS as a ‘Plant for Pollinators’, due its ability to draw the attention of beneficial insects.

This easy-to-grow Cherry Laurel has the capacity to become tree-like with age, even stretching up to 8m tall! Many planted together will form a privacy-inducing hedge or natural screen.

Supplied as an established plant in a 5L pot, ready to plant. This Cherry Laurel will already stand around 100-120cm tall on arrival.

Top Tips
Easy to grow in any moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil in sun or partial shade. Its spreading habit makes it useful for low hedges and massed planting.
Care Information

Planting Advice:

  • Grow Cherry Laurel in well-drained soil in any sunny or partially shaded site. This variety will even tolerate growing conditions in full shade.
  • Dig a planting hole three times the width of the existing roots and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once in place.
  • A square hole is typically better than a round one as new roots, once they reach the edges, tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole, whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.
  • Before planting soak this container-grown plant thoroughly and allow it to drain.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
  • Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help quicker establishment.
  • Lower into the hole to the same level it was in the supplied nursery pot, refilling the hole with the earth removed, in a process called backfilling.
  • Firm in the soil with your heel, taking care to avoid the root ball, then water well to kick-start establishment.
  • Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.

Aftercare Advice:

  • Keep well-watered as they establish.
  • Hardy in winter conditions down to -15C to -20C, protect young plants from cold winds as this can cause damage.

Pruning Advice:

  • Cherry Laurel can be trimmed in spring or autumn to keep them tidy and shapely. If pruning at the end of the season, when growth has finished, do it before the onset of very cold weather.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
