• Soak the seeds overnight before sowing for quicker germination.
• Grow as companion with calendula or other pollen-rich flowers to attract insects to pollinate your courgette flowers.
• Harvest regularly to encourage plants to continue cropping through the season.

How to grow Courgette

• Sow indoors for surest results, 1.5cm (½in) deep, on edge, in small pots of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20°C (60-68°F) is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 7-14 days. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 60cm (24in) apart, when frosts are over.
• Or sow outdoors, where they are to crop, 1.5cm (½in) deep, directly into finely prepared soil that has already been watered. Allow 60cm (24in) between sowing positions. Sow two seeds on edge per position. Early sowings benefit from cloche protection. Thin to leave the stronger plant. Water well until plants are established.
• Harvest: Cut the courgettes when they are about 10-15cm (4-6in) long, or leave some to mature as marrows.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.
