Product Information

Lavatera, also known as 'tree mallow', is a must-have for every garden!

Large, shrubby perennials, their impressive, hollyhock-like flower spikes stand up to 2 metres tall and will burst into an abundance of colour all summer long.

'Rosea' is one of the prettiest Lavatera, with large, rose-pink blooms – perfect for creating a Mediterranean or tropical mood in your garden and for contrasting with leafy perennials. This large, versatile plant is equally happy in a cottage garden scheme.

Ideal for hot, sunny spots, they are great plants for climbing up walls and trellises. You can also prune them to grow in pots on the patio. Incredibly vigorous, these are some of the easiest plants to grow and are perfect for beginners.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, Lavatera 'Rosea' will bloom from June to September, reaching an approximate height of 200cm.

Top Tips

  • Mallow can be slow to break into bud in spring, so be patient with plants that might appear to have died over winter as they may still be dormant.

Care Information

  • Grow in full sun in moist, well-drained soil. Alternatively, can be grown successfully in a pot.
  • Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds.
  • Water your shrub well while still in the pot.
  • Add a conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots. Place your shrub in the hole at the same level as the pot, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in the summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Refill the hole and firm the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball, and water well. Water regularly until established.
  • Feed plants regularly during the growing season with a general purpose feed.
  • Prune in spring when all risk of frost has passed and new buds are swelling. Prune all stems back to about 30cm above ground level.
