Product Information

The perennial wallflower, Erysimum has the same lightly scented flowers, but with no need to replant ever year. They have an amazingly long flowering season from as early as February right through spring and summer and into autumn.

In this collection you will receive:

4 x ‘Apricot Twist’ - A fabulous variety, with masses of flower spikes covered in dark red buds opening into bright orange flowers, almost completely covering the evergreen foliage. They are excellent cut flowers, bringing their subtle fragrance into your home and lasting up to ten days in a vase.

4 x ‘Pastel Patchwork’ - An incredible variety that produces waves of flower spikes that are covered in colour changing blooms that emerge cream, before changing to yellow, then apricot and then pink. With each flower differing in age, you’ll get all of the colours all the time, covering the evergreen foliage. They are excellent cut flowers, bringing their subtle fragrance into your home and lasting up to ten days in a vase.

4 x ‘Spring Breeze Sunglow’ - Producing continuous waves of dazzling sunshine yellow flower spikes set off beautifully against the evergreen foliage. They are excellent cut flowers, bringing their subtle fragrance into your home and lasting up to ten days in a vase.

These glorious plants are perfect for growing in beds, borders and pots and thrive in both full sunshine and partial shade, so everyone can grow these somewhere in their garden. They are a magnet for bees, butterflies and lots of other beneficial insects.

Erysimum are so easy to look after, needing only regular removal of faded flower spikes and then trimming back during winter when flowering has come to an end.

Supplied as 12 x plug plants, ready to pot on or plant out, reaching a height and spread of 50 cm (20 in).

Top Tips

  • Fully hardy, but if the soil is not well drained protection is advised in the very coldest of winters.

Care Information

  • Give your plugs a little attention on arrival - unpack them immediately, and either mist them or stand them in water for an hour - they may be slightly dry or yellow after being in a dark box in the post, but they’ll quickly recover. If you can’t do this, they can sit in Mini Greenhouses for a week if upright and not too wet.
  • We recommend that you leave them to settle for a day somewhere warm, light and airy such as a windowsill or greenhouse.
  • When you're ready to pot on, use a good quality, multi-purpose compost, and fill 3-4in pots (7-10cm).
  • Make a hole in the compost with a dibber or your finger, then holding each plug by its root ball, place it into the hole and gently firm the compost around it.
  • Give your plants a good water initially, then only when the top compost starts to dry as they don’t like to be left in standing water.
  • Grow on either on a bright windowsill or a greenhouse for 3-4 weeks before potting up into containers or into flower beds.
  • If planting directly into flower beds when all risk of frost has passed, prepare the ground well, removing weeds and digging in some compost or well-rotted manure if your soil is not already rich.
  • Plant approx. 30 cm (1 ft) apart to allow them room to grow.

Aftercare

  • Feed using a high-potash feed such as Blooming Fast Superior Soluble Fertiliser for Flowers & Fruits, to encourage flowering.
  • Remove faded flower stalks.
  • Trim lightly in winter, after flowing has finished, to stop plants becaming leggy.
