A wonderfully versatile flower, Vinca minor Illumination (aka the common periwinkle) will provide gorgeous pastel blooms that thrive in full sun to full shade. Intricate lavender blue flowers flourish in early spring and last until autumn, providing your garden with months of colour across multiple seasons.
Due to the flowers trailing stems and quick growth, Vinca minor Illumination is the perfect ground cover choice to fill up sparse areas with attractive blooms, particularly those patches that are covered in full shade. When planted this way they also have the bonus of preventing weeds. It’s also a great addition to beds, borders and hanging baskets.
The bright yellow and green leaves contrast beautifully with the violet notes of the flower and will flourish to heights of 20cm with a 50cm spread. A wonderful pollinator, Vinca minor Illumination will attract a wide variety of bees and butterflies to your garden which will enhance local wildlife in the process. No need to worry about unwanted guests though – these flowers are fully resistant to deer and rabbits, making them a beautifully safe addition to any rural garden.
