Product Information

One of the easiest and hardiest herbaceous perennials to grow, Potentilla Fruticosa 'Tangerine' produces masses of delightfully shaded flowers throughout summer and autumn.

Saucer-shaped flowers bloom during the warm months in a yellow shade, flushed with copper-orange, which contrasts wonderfully against green and healthy foliage.

A versatile and attractive plant with a bushy and low-growing habit that makes it perfect for a plethora of garden scenarios, such as placing at the front of beds and borders, or as a feature in a rock and gravel display. It is also a great choice for banks and slopes, or as colourful informal hedging.

For those with less outdoor space to play with, this variety also makes an eye-catching display when planted in a pot or container, and placed on a patio, decking, or balcony.

This deciduous, low-maintenance shrub boasts good pest and disease resistance and is as hardy as they come, so when fully established will tolerate drought and even the coldest of winter temperatures and conditions.

For best results, plant in full sun or a partially shaded position, and ideally in moist but well-drained soil - although Potentillas are known for being happy in most soil conditions.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot ready to plant out.

Top Tips

  • Prefers a little shade during the heat of the day to keep blooming for longer and prevent the flower colour from fading.
  • Add mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help the plant establish more quickly.

Care Information

  • Can be planted at any time of the year, as long as the soil is not frozen, waterlogged or left drought-dry.
  • Select an appropriate spot for your plant, making sure that you give it enough space to grow to its full size.
  • Choose a semi-shaded or sunny position that has some shade during the day.
  • Will tolerate a wide range of conditions but ideally prefers a moist, well-drained soil, so add plenty of well-rotted manure into the hole if necessary.
  • Dig a hole slightly wider than the nursery pot, forking over the bottom to loosen the soil. Add some good-quality fertiliser such as blood, fish and bone.
  • Plant to the same depth as the nursery pot and backfill with soil, firming around the planting area with your heel.
  • Keep well-watered until established, but after a few weeks in the ground, your plant will not need much watering.
  • If planted in a pot or container, water enough so that the soil does not dry out – about once a week through spring and summer, or more if the weather is hot.
  • Very hardy and low maintenance, but for best results, feed in late autumn/early winter, then mulch to preserve moisture through the winter.
  • Plants can be tidied by trimming back in autumn when they have finished flowering, or as necessary in the summer to maintain shape.
