Description

Stately and regal spring blooms that are tough and hardy to plant now and survive through the bitter winter months. Introduce royalty to your garden with the ‘Kings and Queens’ Bulb Collection.

Witness an incredible contrast in colour by planting this whole collection as one display, as the bright golden-yellow flowers of ‘King Alfred’ and orange Crown Imperials really standout against the near black ‘Queen of the Night’ tulips.

These blooms even emerge on long and strong stems, so are just waiting to be snipped and included in fresh cut flower vase displays, bringing a splash of nature into the home.

Enjoy this excellent collection that includes:

  • 20 x Narcissus ‘King Alfred’ bulbs, size 10/12: There’s something so regal about the ‘King of Daffodils’. These golden-yellow flowers are spring staples, with flowers that each stretch up to 10cm wide and boast a classic trumpet-like shape.
  • 20 x Tulip ‘Queen of the Night’ bulbs, size 10/11: Eye-catching and unique tulips with deep purple flowers that are almost black. The rich petals are glossy, forming blooms that rise upright on high stems from plants of green foliage.
  • 2 x Crown Imperial bulbs, size 20/24: Fritillaria imperialis, affectionately known as Crown Imperials due to the crown-like whorl of leaves that top bright orange, downward-facing blooms. A unique fragrance is produced by this spring flowerer, which is handy for repelling mice, moles, and other rodents. Proud holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Supplied as a mixed collection of 42 bulbs, ready for autumn planting.

Top Tips
  • Add mycorrhizal fungi to the roots before planting to encourage faster and more reliable establishment.
Care Information

Bulb Planting Advice:

  • Plant bulbs at twice the depth of the height of the bulb and four times their width apart. e.g. 5cm tall bulbs need to be planted 10cm below the surface of the ground and 20cm apart.
  • They are fine to plant even if a little green growth is showing, they’ll just need a good watering when you plant them, and then only when the soil is dry.
  • Leave them in the ground once they die back for flowers again next year.
  • While all the energy that a bulb needs in order to grow is stored in the bulb itself, they will do better if you feed them when in active green growth.
  • Plant in herbaceous borders, in pots, or leave in the ground to naturalise.
  • If planted in pots be sure to water frequently and keep moist.

Aftercare Advice:

  • Bulbs can be planted as late as December, but it’s best to get your bulbs in the ground earlier so that they can establish a good root system before the weather becomes too cold.
  • Plant in herbaceous borders, in pots, or leave in the ground to naturalise.
  • Water frequently and if in pots ensure that the compost doesn't dry out.

Cutting Back:

  • Once flowering is over, it is important to leave the leaves on until they have died right down, usually by early summer. This allows the bulbs to store food and produce flowers in the following year.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
