Cabbage 'Caraflex'

• Cabbages thrive in full sun, but they can tolerate partial shade.
• Use fertile, well-drained soil that's slightly acidic to neutral. Ensure the soil retains moisture but doesn’t become waterlogged.
• Enrich the soil with well-rotted compost or manure before planting to provide essential nutrients.
• Space plants 30 - 45cm apart with rows spaced 45 - 60cm apart, depending on the variety.
• Plant plugs so the root ball is just below the soil surface and the base of the stem is at soil level.
• Firm the soil around the plant to support its growth and water well after planting.
• To grow in containers, use a pot at least 30cm deep and wide, with good drainage. Ensure one cabbage plant per container.

Caring: 

• Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply 1 - 2 times a week, increasing during dry spells.
• Avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
• Apply a balanced fertiliser every 3 - 4 weeks to encourage leafy growth in the early stages.
• Once the heads begin forming, switch to a fertiliser high in potassium to support their development.
• Apply a layer of mulch (straw, compost, or grass clippings) around the plants to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.

Harvesting:

• Cabbages are ready to harvest when the heads are firm to the touch and reach their expected size, usually 12 - 16 weeks after planting.
• Use a sharp knife to cut the cabbage at the base, just above the soil line.
• Remove any loose outer leaves to reveal the compact, edible head.

If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.
