Product Information

With spectacular spears of yellow, orange, and red blooms that are produced continuously from June to October, also known as Red Hot Pokers, they will put on a fiery show of bright flowers that burst like rockets from a base of compact, grass-like leaves to fill your garden with colour.

A fully hardy perennial, Kniphofia Flamenco will really brighten up the garden as other plants begin to fade and being compact is ideal for smaller gardens or even patio pots.

Easy to grow and a terrific drought-tolerant garden plant, red hot pokers are an excellent addition to city and coastal gardens and look great in the middle of wildlife borders and gravel gardens - as well as traditional cottage-garden style plantings.

Unlike older varieties of poker, Flamenco has delightful, strap-like leaves that remains tidy so does not spoil the display and you don't need to worry about staking as it's a dwarf variety, and is perfect in borders, pots, and containers - great if you really don't have the time to be faffing about.

Adored by butterflies and bees for their nectar and flower arrangers for their style - red hot pokers make lovely cut flowers too.

Supplied as 3 x established plants in 9cm pots, ready to plant out.

Care Information

Planting Advice for Kniphofia Flamenco:

  • Best grown in a well-drained, but not over-fertile soil, plants bloom best in full sun.
  • Water your potted plant well.
  • Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot.
  • Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
  • Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot.
  • Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).
  • Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.
  • Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.

Aftercare Advice for red hot poker 'Flamenco':

  • Mulch young plants with straw or leaves or cover with fleece for their first winter.
  • Water container-grown plants regularly over the summer. Apply a light fertilizer in spring or early summer.

Pruning Advice for Flamenco red-hot poker:

  • Deadhead after flowering. Leave the old foliage on the plant to protect the crown over winter. Tidy plants in spring by pulling away dead and damaged leaves from the base, which will also allow you to check for slugs and snails.
