- Despite the delicate appearance of Thalictrum, this lovely plant is nigh on indestructible.
- It grows strongly in any reasonably well lit border, even in the poorest soils and forms a cloud of tiny pinkish-purple blooms filled with yellow stamens on striking, fern-like foliage.
- Spells of poor summer weather do not seem to bother it and the plants are fresh healthy and colourful all year with an attractive pink tinge to the young spring growth.
- A great architectural plant for filling spacious borders and very nice as a cut flower in large floral vases.

Description
Don't be fooled by the delicate appearance! Thalictrum rochebruneanum is a remarkably tough, award winning perennial that brings height, movement and a wonderfully airy summer display with very little fuss.
Tall, slender stems rise above finely divided, fern-like foliage, carrying clouds of dainty pinkish-purple flowers with bright yellow stamens. The effect is light and graceful rather than heavy, so neighbouring plants can grow around and beneath it without being crowded or hidden.
This makes Meadow Rue especially valuable in larger borders, where it adds architectural height while keeping the planting open and natural. It works beautifully among grasses, hardy geraniums and other cottage-garden perennials, bringing a soft, drifting quality to the display.
Despite its elegant looks, it is easy to grow and reliably robust. It performs well in a reasonably bright position, copes with less-than-perfect soils and is not easily discouraged by unsettled summer weather. Fresh spring growth often carries an attractive pink flush, extending its appeal before the flowers begin.
Plus, the tall flowering stems are also excellent for cutting, adding height and a loose, meadow-like character to large arrangements.

Top Tips
If grown in fertile soil, plants will grow rapidly and may need staking to prevent the spires of bloom from toppling over.
Care Information
Planting Advice:
- Plant in fertile soil that does not dry out, ideal in woodland gardens.
- Prefers light shade and may need staking.
- Plants are late to emerge after winter dormancy, new leaves will appear from mid to late spring.
When Planting:
- Water your potted plant well.
- Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot.
- Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.
- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
- Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot.
- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).
- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.
- Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.
