Product Information

Clematis ‘Pompeii’ is one of the ground-breaking series of Boulevard® clematis bred by award-winning clematis expert Raymond Evison. Large, pastel pink flowers cover this compact, medium-sized plant giving an impressive display over a long flowering season from spring to late summer.

This compact clematis blooms all the way along its stems, resulting in a proliferation of large, soft pink flowers from the ground upwards all summer and into late autumn. A beautiful feature for fences, trellises, and arches and is especially effective in containers.

‘Pompeii’ loves a sunny spot, where it can be trained up trellis for a vertical wall effect or allow to naturally wind its way through beds and borders, and at it grown to just 1.2m (4ft) it’ll always be easy to control. Just trim the stems back to 15cm (6in) in February or March.

Free-flowering and extremely hardy, this clematis is perfect for decorating fences and its compact growth is ideally suited to a pot, planter or even hanging baskets!

Supplied an established plant in a 10.5cm pot, ready for growing on.

Supplied an established plant in a 10.5cm pot, ready for growing on.

Top Tips

  • Plant with the crown of the plant 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level. Clematis like a cool ‘root run’ so try and plant so that the roots are shaded. If you are planting in a sunny position, place some pieces of slate or flat stones on the soil after planting or use groundcover plants to keep the roots cool.

Care Information

  • Feed in spring with a general-purpose feed, avoiding the stems. Mulch immediately afterwards with organic matter such as well-rotted manure, leafmould or garden compost.
  • Water regularly during periods of dry weather in the first few seasons after planting, especially for container plants.
  • Clematis in pots should be given a liquid feed through the summer and early autumn.
  • Flowers appear on new growth, so cut back all the previous year's stems to a pair of strong buds, 15-20cm above soil level, before growth begins in early spring.
