Product Information

A fabulous and luscious climber with evergreen foliage and trustworthy annual displays of star-shaped blooms – what’s not to love?

Considered a remarkable alternative to the ‘Queen of Climbers’, Clematis, for sprawling up a wall, fence, or archway, this Passion Flower is tough, resilient, and easy to train.

The intricate pure white flowers are waxy and fragrant, with either pale blue or white spiked filaments - these amazing details make this Passiflora a joy to behold. When the weather is particularly hot, you'll be rewarded with small, egg-shaped fruit to end the flowering season.

Foliage is a superb deep green, with glossy lobed leaves and branches that are almost purple.

‘Constance Elliot’ can become hardy once fully established in some areas, but in colder parts of the country, be sure to grow against a south-facing wall or in a large pot.

Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure that this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come.

Supplied as an established plant in an 9cm pot, ready to plant.

Top Tips

If your Passion Flower is overgrown or badly frost-damaged, be sure to carry out renovation in spring by cutting the stems back to 30-60cm from soil level and it will respond by sending out new shoots.

Care Information

Planting Advice for Passiflora:

  • Passion Flowers tend to bloom particularly well when their roots are restricted by a container or path side border.
  • When planting in a container, use John Innes No 3 potting compost, or any good quality compost.
  • Pot-grown shrubs can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen.
  • Water your potted plant well, then dig a hole a little deeper and three times the width of the supplied nursery pot.
  • Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.
  • Remove the plant from the pot and tease out a few of the roots.
  • Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot.
  • Refill the hole with the earth removed by backfilling.
  • Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball.
  • Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.

Aftercare Advice:

  • Water well and regularly for the first few months. With a robust and rapidly growing root system, your plant will establish rapidly.
  • Once planted, keep the area free of weeds, which will compete for nutrients.
  • Apply a generous layer of mulch around the base of the plant after planting and annually thereafter.

Pruning Advice:

  • Little pruning is needed apart from removing any branches that are dead, damaged or diseased.
  • If your passion flower is overgrown or badly frost-damaged, carry out renovation in spring by cutting back the stems to 30-60cm from soil level and your plant will respond by sending out new shoots.
