Product Information

Finding plants that perform in winter can be hard work, but this gorgeous Viburnum is just the thing to perk up those dull days.

Viburnum tinus produces masses of very fragrant white flowers emerging from blush-pink buds in clusters right in midwinter - from December well into April, followed by red-purple berries. And it's evergreen too, and totally hardy, although the leaves may suffer a little cosmetic cold damage below -10C.

However, it is rarely sold in this wonderful 'standard' form, as an 80cm plant with a crafted head on top, bursting with bud and flower in spring. A fabulous focal tree on its own, great in pairs, and even better in an avenue along a path - where the scent and colour will amaze you in winter.

What Is Supplied

Item 510191 supplied as:
Supplied as a 4 year old tree, 80cm tall in 3L pot, with and shaped standard head.

Top Tips

To keep your standard tree looking at its best, remove any side shoots (laterals) from the trunk of the young tree in the winter. Any weak or competing shoots can also be removed from the top of the tree if needed.

Care Information

  • By keeping your standard tree in its pot, you can limit its size and keep it manageable. Spring is the best time to repot potted standards.
  • Repot your standard tree every other year. Use the same pot if you want to keep it at its current size, or up to 5cm (2in) bigger is you would like to grow it on a bit more.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and trim off any rotten roots or roots that are winding around the outside of the root ball.
  • Cut away the bottom one-third of the root ball using a pruning saw and replant using fresh potting soil or compost.
