Description

The pumpkins that win competitions! 'Atlantic Giant' is a must-have for those who love growing huge, impressive, eye-catching crops.

Incredible in size and strikingly orange in colour, this variety is perfect for autumn celebrations, festive displays, and delicious seasonal recipes. Whether you’re growing for a competition or simply trying to blow away family and friends, ‘Atlantic Giant’ is a fun and rewarding choice.

This variety thrives in sunny, sheltered spots and spreads out beautifully in allotments, vegetable gardens, or even a designated patch on the lawn. With a vigorous growth habit, it produces sprawling vines that yield massive pumpkins, some weighing over 300kg under the right conditions.

Despite their colossal size, these pumpkins are easy to grow and make an exciting project for gardeners of all levels. As your pumpkins mature, their deep orange hue add a festive touch to your outdoor space.

Supplied as 12 plug plants, ready to plant once all risk of frost has passed.

Top Tips
Place a board or piece of cardboard under each developing pumpkin to prevent contact with damp soil, reducing the risk of rot.
Care Information
  • Plant pumpkin plug plants outdoors once all risk of frost has passed, typically late spring to early summer.
  • Alternatively, start indoors or in a greenhouse in early spring and transplant outside later.
  • Select a sunny, sheltered spot with at least 6 - 8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Ensure the area has plenty of space, as pumpkins require room to sprawl.
  • Pumpkins thrive in rich, fertile, well-drained soil.
  • Dig in plenty of organic compost or well-rotted manure before planting to ensure the soil is nutrient-rich.
  • Space each plant 1.5 - 2 metres apart to give the vines ample room to grow.
  • Plant so the root ball is just covered with soil. The crown of the plant should sit at soil level. Firm the soil gently around the plug and water thoroughly after planting.

Ongoing Care:

  • Pumpkins are thirsty plants. Keep the soil consistently moist, watering deeply 2–3 times a week.
  • Avoid overhead watering to prevent mildew; water at the base of the plant instead.
  • Feed regularly with a high-potash fertiliser (such as tomato feed) once fruits begin to form.
  • Incorporate a balanced fertiliser early on to encourage strong vine and leaf growth.
  • Apply a layer of mulch (straw, compost, or grass clippings) around the plant to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Keep the area weed-free to reduce competition for nutrients and water.

Harvesting:

  • Pumpkins are ready to harvest in late autumn, usually 90–120 days after planting.
  • Look for hard, orange skin and a hollow sound when tapped.
  • Use a sharp knife or pruners to cut the pumpkin from the vine, leaving a 5–10cm stem attached. This helps prolong storage life.
  • Cure pumpkins by leaving them in the sun for 10–14 days, which hardens the skin and improves storage quality.
  • If weather is damp or cold, cure indoors in a warm, dry space.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
