Courgette 'Midnight'

• Dig the soil deeply and remove weeds. Add plenty of organic matter, such as well-rotted compost or manure, to improve fertility and drainage. For heavy soils, mix in some sand or grit.
• Space plants about 90cm apart to allow for their spreading growth habit. Create a hole slightly larger than the plug plant.
• Gently place it in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
• Backfill with soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly.

Caring:

• Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply at the base of the plant rather than from above to reduce the risk of mildew.
• In hot, dry weather, increase watering frequency.
• Feed plants with a high-potash fertiliser (e.g., tomato feed) every two weeks once they start flowering. Avoid high-nitrogen feeds, which can encourage excessive leafy growth at the expense of fruits.
• Apply a layer of organic mulch, such as straw or compost, around the plants to retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds.

Harvesting:

• Harvest courgettes when they are around 15 - 20 cm long for the best flavor and texture.
• Smaller courgettes are more tender, while larger ones can become tough and seedy.
• Use a sharp knife or pruning shears to cut the courgettes cleanly from the plant, leaving a short stalk attached.
• Regular harvesting encourages the plant to produce more fruits.

If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.
