Product Information

'Polka' is simpy the best garden grown raspberry you can get. That's a bold claim, but it combines quick first year fruiting being a primocane variety, with exceptional large fruit sizes and big big yields well into the Autumn.

Primocane raspberries are the big gardeners' breakthrough - they produce fruit on NEW stems, so you get fruit in the same year as you plant them, rather than wait a year for old-fashioned types. And planting them as 'short cane', where they are cut back to 25cm or so above ground level means they require less support to get going.

'Polka' yields up to 5lbs (2.2Kg) PER plant once establsihed, so you can look forward to picking big juicy crops of raspberries form August well into October, as this Autumn fruiting special keeps on fruiting.

If you are going to grow raspberries, make sure it's 'Polka'...

Top Tips

  • Cut down any raspberry canes that have already fruited in November, leaving long canes for the following year's bigger crops.
  • New shoots will soon emerge, and next year's fruit will be produced on these one-year-old, ripened canes.
  • If you would appreciate fresh raspberries over a longer season, grow at least one summer and one autumn variety of raspberry bushes.

Care Information

  • Plant raspberries and blackberries roughly 50cm apart in rows, along walls or fences or in beds where further support from posts can be used.
  • They can also be grown in large pots (40cm+ diameter) on your patio, balcony, terrace and more.
  • Select an appropriate spot for your plants, making sure that you give them enough space to grow to their full size.
  • For best results, plant in a sunny but sheltered position.
  • Soak canes in water for a couple of hours before planting to wake them up from dormancy.
  • Dig a hole at least an inch longer than the length of your plants (including roots) and roughly double the width to ensure space for the roots.
  • Fork over the bottom to loosen the soil, and add some good quality fertiliser such as Blood Fish & Bone.
  • Aim to plant at the same depth as the soil mark on the stems.
  • Holding the plant upright in position with one hand, slowly backfill the hole with soil, and gently shake the plant, so the soil falls back around the roots.
  • Firm in and water well. Keep well watered for the first 8 weeks to help plants to establish, then water regularly.
