Bring A Taste Of The Tropics To Your Home With A Grafted, Self-Fertile Mango Tree For Conservatory Growing And Summer Patio Display.
A beautiful ornamental variety for pot growing, this mango tree can enjoy a summer holiday outdoors in a warm, sheltered spot before being brought back inside for winter protection when temperatures are forecast to drop below 4C. To produce flowers and fruit in the UK, it must be grown indoors year-round in bright, warm conservatory conditions. Juicy oval fruit develops and ripens between July and September, following on from sweetly fragrant white flowers.
Outside of the fruiting season, the broad, leathery, evergreen foliage keeps the tree looking bold and tropical every month of the year. It’s genuinely ornamental whether it is carrying fruit or not.
Plus, care is straightforward. Plant into a large container of well-drained fertile compost, position in full sun, water deeply and allow the compost surface to dry by several inches between waterings.
Supplied as an established, grafted plant in a 1.5 litre pot, approximately 65-90cm tall on arrival and ready to grow. Grafted on a Gomera 3 rootstock.
Fragrant white flowers can appear from late spring to early summer, followed by fruit in warm, bright conditions. Fruiting is not guaranteed every year in the UK, but warmth, light and careful watering give the tree the best chance. To produce flowers and fruit in the UK, it must be grown indoors year-round in bright, warm conservatory conditions.
On Arrival
Unpack your mango tree straight away and check the compost. If it feels dry, water thoroughly and allow any excess to drain away. Keep the plant somewhere bright, warm and sheltered for a few days while it settles after its journey.
Potting On
Your mango tree can remain in its 1.5 litre pot briefly, but it will grow best when moved into a larger container. Choose a pot with good drainage holes and use a good quality, free-draining compost. Never leave the pot standing in water, as mangoes dislike wet roots.
Summer Care
For ornamental patio display, your mango tree can enjoy summer outdoors in the warmest, sunniest and most sheltered position available. A patio, greenhouse or conservatory is ideal. Water deeply, then allow the top few inches of compost to dry before watering again. Avoid keeping the compost constantly wet.
Feed during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser to support healthy growth.
Flowering And Fruiting
In the UK, mango trees are not expected to flower or fruit outdoors. To produce flowers and fruit, they must be grown indoors year-round in bright, warm conservatory conditions, where they can enjoy consistent heat, high light levels and protection from cold.
Winter Care
This tree is frost tender and must be brought indoors before temperatures fall below 4C. Keep it in a bright conservatory, greenhouse or frost-free room, away from cold draughts. Water much less in winter, giving just enough to prevent the compost from drying out completely.
